Music Ministry
The University Baptist Church Music Department has been quite active this past year.
The Chancel Choir membership has fluctuated between 10 and 15 singers, and the Emmanuel
choir between 5 and 8. On some occasions other church members have assisted with
the programs as well.
In addition to providing music for regular Sunday morning worship services, the
choir also participated in the annual NSI neighborhood concert which raised over
$2,600 dollars for aid, a festive Christmas program, Maundy Thursday, Palm Sunday
and Easter Sunday. The Emmanuel choir has also assisted in these programs as well
as leading the congregational singing on their own.
There have been several willing soloists, both vocal and instrumental, who have
shared their talent with the church. Some of these include April Beerman, a graduate
of OSU in vocal performance, Roderick Jungbauer, a new member of UBC, and Jeffrey
Jackson, one of our very own.
The music has been for several different time periods, languages, styles, and instrumentation
(including chimes, percussion etc.). All the members of the choirs have worked hard
to learn the music and are always up for a challenge. We have been able to purchase
some more music to add to our collection and also have access to the Ohio State
Music Library.
Lillian’s ministry, organization and assistance, and performance has been extraordinary
and very professional. She brings a unique blend of varied musical style to the
table and has a humble spirit of ministry that is displayed each time in her playing.
At times she as had to be the accompanist for all the soloists, all the choir music,
all the rehearsals, as still get the offertory, prelude and postlude in there at
the same time. And she is always prepared.
We are still greatly in need of more singers and welcome anyone who would like to
join us. Many thanks to all the faithful members who keep coming back and giving
their all.
